It uses a “basket weave” type of pattern, but it is really easy.

Decide on how big you want your mat, make sure you will have enough yarn. Start with a base of chain stitches in multiples of 6 + 1 ch + 2 ch (the 2 ch is for a DC on each side) Row 1: 1 SC into 2nd ch from your hook, 1 SC into each ch Row 2: 3 ch, 1 DC into each SC Row 3: (right side) 2 ch, * 1 FPdc in next 3 DC, 1 BPdc in next 3 DC * Repeat from * to * to end of row, ending with 1 DC into top of turn ch Row 4: 2 ch, * 1 FPdc in next 3 DC, 1 PBdc in next 3 DC, * Repeat from * to * to end of row, ending with 1 DC into top of turn ch Row 5: 2 ch, * 1 BPdc in next 3 DC, 1 FPdc in next 3 DC, * Repeat from * to * to end of row, ending with 1 DC into top of turn ch Row 6 and 7: 2 ch, * 1 BPdc in next 3 DC, 1 FPdc in next 3 DC, * Repeat from * to * to end of row, ending with 1 DC into top of turn ch Repeat rows 4 to 7 until you have reached your desired size / length. End with a row of SC. Cut yarn, pull through loop and sew away ends.
