8 Bit Fireplace Insert

It's Dangerous to go Alone - Make this Legend of Zelda-inspired fireplace

About

We had a ton of paint chips from when we painted our doors and shelves in shades of red, orange, and yellow. Instead of tossing the free paint chips, we made them into this 8-bit fire! If you don't have paint chips, you can also use construction paper or card stock.

We didn't actually have a fireplace in our home to begin with, but found the mantel/surround on Craigslist for $30. It was in rough 90's shape, but a ton of sanding and painting fixed it right up.

You Will Need (4 things)

  • Square Paper Punch (Optional)
  • Glue
  • Foam Board
  • Paint Chips

Steps (5 steps, 30 minutes)

  1. 1

Start by cutting out squares. You can either get a square hole punch from the craft store, or cut out even squares with scissors.

  2. 2

We used several different shades of red, orange, yellow, and off-white.

Find a screenshot of the 8-bit Legend of Zelda fire online, to use as a template. They're easy to find! We also have one posted on our blog.

  3. 3

BEFORE gluing, lay your squares out on a piece of black foam board or poster board in the pattern that you want, to make sure it's nice and centered and all fits.

  4. 4

Glue the squares on with a glue stick, or whatever glue you like.

  5. 5

When you're done, just prop your fireplace insert into your fireplace, or hang it on the wall.
