The delicacy of nature's elements

About

For this 5th piece, I chose a pattern representing a half heart composed of several type flowers and a Hummingbird that suggests the second half of the heart. This papercut is very delicate and its cutting is quite complex, you will especially have to take your time so that the result is regular. Once cut, this pattern will have a very pleasant "lace" look.

You Will Need (8 things)

  • Your Drawing
  • Scalpel
  • Black paper
  • Cardboard Backing
  • Pencils
  • Scotch Tape
  • Patience! And Take Your Time!
  • Tracing Paper

Steps (13 steps, 1080 minutes)

  1. 1

As usual, draw your pattern right side up on tracing paper, it is important to trace it and cut it upside down. Once your transferred pattern, if the drawing is not visible enough on black paper, feel free to draw it again with your pencil.

  2. 2

Start your cut from the bottom of the flowers by going up gradually. Be very patient and precise in your gestures from the start of the cuts.

  3. 3

Every detail are important, large flowers like the very small ones or the edges of the petals like the inside of the pistils, all this will make the "lace" effect perfect.

  4. 4

Continue your cut without rushing, even if you want to see the final result as quickly as possible, pay attention to this important point.

  5. 5

The center of the flowers are elements that you will need to take great care of, they are very fragile and can easily be broken during cutting.

  6. 6

Finish the whole heart with flowers before starting to cut the Hummingbird.

  7. 7

The Hummingbird's bottom feathers are easy, which is very good to start this second part of the drawing. Be precise in your cuts on the small feathers.

  8. 8

Then the wings, the feathers in this place are larger but that does not complicate your cuts, nonetheless, stay focused on each element.

  9. 9

The details of the beak and the eye will have to be cut out before the large interior part of the Colbri, beware of the latter which is quite complicated to cut.

  10. 10

You must now cut out the two bottom parts of this pattern, the first being the inside of the heart. You need to be particularly patient and focused from this step, these elements are the most difficult to cut out of this pattern.

  11. 11

Once the center of the heart is removed, you must be very careful about where the paper rises (very visible in this picture), because you risk damaging or tearing these parts by cutting out the rest.

  12. 12

For this last step, the most delicate of this papercut, precisely follow your drawing with your sclapel and do not hesitate to take breaks in your cuts to keep the maximum regularity.

  13. 13

Now finished, you can frame your papercut or add colors if you want. For better result, you can frame it in a frame with a transparent background.
