Meet the Author
Hey there, can you introduce yourself?
We are two Norwegian sisters who both love to braid and do hairstyles. We started our Instagram account "aurorabraids" 2 and a half years ago, where we post pictures of hairstyles and braids that we do, almost daily. We also have a YouTube channel "Mia and Linda" where we post in-depth tutorials for some of our hairstyles.
Tell us a bit about the book?
Our book "Effortless hairstyles" includes tutorials (with pictures and written instructions) for 40 different hairstyles for all types of hair lenghts. All braids and hairstyles are relatively easy to do and most of them can be done on your own hair.
What was the inspiration behind it?
We wanted to create a braiding book with easy and achievable, yet beautiful braids and hairstyles, that anyone can do!
Which is your favourite project?
We're not sure we can pick just one. We love all the hairstyles in the book!
What is your craft space like?
Our "studio", where we have taken the pictures for the book (and where the book has been written )is simply Mia's bedroom. It's really big so there are a lot of space there to take pictures. We don't have a lot of fancy equipment, just a white background, some lights and our trusty canon camera of course.
Have you always been creative?
Yes, we have. From an early age we have both loved to draw and write. We also love to do a lot of DIY projects, as well as braiding of course. We recently made a canopy for Mia's bed from scratch.
When did you first start crafting?
We started braiding when we where kids, and the first braid we did was probably a simple three strand braid. It wasn't until five or six years ago though that we really got into braiding and became obsessed with it.
Who are your crafty heroes?
We love the work of hairstylist Stephanie Brinkerhoff, she makes the most gorgeous bridal updos.
Where do you find inspiration?
We get inspration from all sorts of places. Films, tv-series, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube and so on.
What's next for you?
We will continue to braid and keep up with both our Instagram account and with our YouTube videos. And then we'll see what happens next!
