Hey there, can you introduce yourself?

My name is Tana Smith. I run a DIY and Lifestyle channel on Youtube called Tanamontana100. My passion is creating innovative and fun projects that anyone can enjoy making! This perfectly translated itself into a DIY book about bedroom décor and allowed me to really pour out my creativity for my readers and fans!

Tell us a bit about the book?

DIY Bedroom Décor: 50 Awesome Ideas for Your Room is all about creating an awesome space that you can really feel like you made your own. Projects from the book are categorized by which section of the room they come from; wall hangings, desk décor, etc. Projects range from small things like custom candles and pencil holders all the way to creating your own curtains!

What was the inspiration behind it?

I take inspiration from almost everything I see! When I come across something new that interests or intrigues me I try to store it away and then when it’s time to come up with new ideas I put my own twist on the ideas I have stored up! Many of the ideas for the book were projects that I had been thinking of doing and it just made sense to lay them out in book form, the rest were projects that I came up with that I thought would fit in great with the theme.

Which is your favourite project?

It’s so hard to pick just one, but if I had to I would pick the studded tray. I think it just adds something simple and unique to your storage options for a desk, vanity, or even on a dresser! I still use one that I made to hold my makeup!

What is your craft space like?

A mess! I like to think that my desk looks like those enviable, perfectly styled Pinterest desks but most of the time that is far from the truth. Especially during the book writing process I was up to my eyeballs in craft supplies and keeping everything organized was a just a dream!

Have you always been creative?

I never considered myself to be a creative person through my teens but my mom would definitely dispute that! Despite not thinking of myself as creative I have always been the type of person to make something great out of what I had on hand and I think that skill has lent itself to my obsession with DIY and design.

When did you first start crafting?

I always loved to do arts and crafts as a kid and I think that love never really left me. As a teenager I was obsessed with learning about design. I would spend hours drawing floor plans for my future homes, using online tools to decorate rooms, and planning out all of the accessories that I would add. One of my earliest documented craft projects was gold foil prints which I did last summer. I am still in love with them and sometimes it is really hard to let older projects go to make room for new ones!

Who are your crafty heroes?

One of my absolute favorite DIYers is Jenni Radosevich who runs ISPYDIY.com. She has impeccable style and I love everything about her! I would be crazy if I didn’t mention some of my DIY friends from Youtube including Lagunabeachlove, HaleyWilliams, and LaurDIY! They all come out with such inspiring and creative projects!

Where do you find inspiration?

Pinterest! I love scrolling through Pinterest to see all of the amazing ideas that people put out there. Otherwise you will find me pouring over Tumblr, browsing craft and home décor stores, or just daydreaming about what my perfect life would look like!

What's next for you?

I am taking a leap and moving to Los Angeles! I have lived in a college town in Arizona my entire life, and while I do love it here, I am ready to try somewhere new. I am so ready for what a change of scenery will do for my creative mindset.
