    i know this is an old pust but i'm going to reply anyway. rubbing gold with tamarind pulp and letting it soak in the pulp water mixture works. you can clean brass in this way too.

    Brown sugar or just plain sugar can be substituted with date sugar but not in all cases. It doesn't dissolve . . You can however use it in baking to some extent or as a topping for icecream or oatmeals and cereals
