Yeah Michelle, I've seen the pic of your tat, it's so cute! I love it.

This is the design I'm getting. My friend Andrew designed it for me based on another design. =]

heyyy! i have many tattoos and i just got another one yesterday. the best advice i can give on the healing process is not to use vaseline on it or any other thick jelly-like petroleum product. a thin natural lotion is best with no fragrance. the reason the jelly is bad is because it can lift the pigments out of your skin. i know a few tattoo artists and the thing they worry about when people leave their shop is that people will use too much ointment and their tattoo will come out patchy, in need of touchups, which sucks Happy
jsut take it easy and use lotion Happy hope this helps and your tattoo comes out beautiful which im sure it will

All-black tattoos tend to need more touchups than colored tattoos, but as long as they're taken care of well during the initial healing process, touchups shouldn't be needed. I have only one tattoo (mostly because I make decisions very slowly, lol) but I got it done in two parts. The first part I didn't take such great care of and already got touched up once... and it's due for another round. The second part, I took fantastic care of and it has never needed a touchup yet.

As long as your artist is good, uses high quality inks, and tells you just how to take care of your specific tattoo, you should be in the clear.

I think it depends on a number of factors - the quality of artist, how well your skin takes the ink, the colours used, aftercare etc etc.

One of my last tattoos was healing wonderfully until some woman jabbed me in the back with a roller up newspaper walking into the metro one day and knocked off a small piece that wasn't quite healed -_- I wanted to jab her in the eye, but I digress... That needs a tiny touch up but my artist currently has a broken elbow!

It depends on your skin tone and the colors you want. If you're pastey and just getting black you will most likely be just fine.

for the record, 2 of my 4 are heavy black work. one could use a touchup, and it's the newest one. the one with like 5 caps of ink in it is about 6 years old and still looks perfect.

My black tattoos have never needed touch ups. I always thought those that needed touch ups hadn't looked after their tattoo properly, until my leg got infected after I'd been tattooed & when it finally healed a tiny amount of ink had came out - but this kinda thing happens.

As long as you research your artist & take excellent care of your tattoo I don't see why you would need to go back every few months to have it touched up.
