When did you first get in to cooking and do you remember the first recipe you tried?

Oh my goodness-- I certainly do! In preschool, we were supposed to create a favorite recipe. Mine called for 10 cups of rice and 1 cup of water, boiled for 1 year. Bwahaha. Good thing I decided to practice my skills a little more. ;)

What's your kitchen like and how do you keep organized when cooking?

Because homes near DC are expensive, my kitchen is teeny weeny-- like, a VW Bug would fill my living room and kitchen. My main cooking space is about 2'x2', but I make it work. I am big on organization, because it helps me to make the most of a small space. I am tough on clutter because, if I kept anything extra, there wouldn't be room for me in the house! haha. Goodness. Is that junk mail? Excuse me . . .

What tips would you give to someone wanting to become a better cook?

I would tell them the same thing I tell myself when I try something new-- just keep practicing. What's the old saying-- "Rome wasn't built in a day"? Anything good is worth working hard for. Some recipes on my site I have redone up to 10 times, to get them right. Just keep practicing and improving, and eventually you'll nail it.

Who would you invite to your dream dinner party and what would you cook for them?

This is a really hard question, but if I absolutely had to choose, I would have a dinner party with Ree Drummond and her family. I have loved the Pioneer Woman's show for ages, and it would be so awesome to meet her in person. And who am I kidding? I'd have Ree cooking for ME! I'd love to taste one of her meals! Yum!

Do you do any other crafts and what are your hobbies?

I enjoy all kinds of cooking and baking, as well as the accompanying love food photography-- especially "action shots." I also love sewing (especially quilting!), and I just finished a Double Wedding Ring quilt. It will be quite a while before I attempt another one of those monsters ;) Oh-- does eating Nutella count as a hobby? ;)

Which cooking blogs do you love to read?

My favorite food blogs are Pinch of Yum, The Pioneer Woman, and Bojon Gourmet-- great food and beautiful food photography on all of them!

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

My first book is coming out April 29! I can hardly wait! Check out more about it on my website or facebook page!

What's your favorite...

TV Show
I Love Lucy
Band
Zac Brown Band! I always dream of a tropical vacation :)
City
Ernest, Pennsylvania-- where I grew up-- it's stunningly beautiful, with countryside, farmland, and Amish buggies.
Movie
Pride and Prejudice-- the 6 hour A&E version, because it's the closest to the book.
Cook Book
I love the Taste of Home "Prize Winning Recipe" cookbooks from the early 1990s-- they are like treasure boxes full of goodies!
Cuisines
Southern Comfort food will always be my favorite, but I often try to lighten up the dishes to enjoy the taste without the calories.
Ingredients
Garlic. Onions. Green Peppers. I use these constantly and always keep them on hand. (No, the garlic isn't to keep ghosts away ;)
Kitchen Gadget
There are so many . . . but if I had to choose, I could never, ever live without my Kitchenaid Mixer :)
