Description

Great way to update that old oversized sweatshirt.

Instructions

  1. Small 105612 2f2014 11 15 195920 sweatshirt%2b009

Start by laying out a shirt that you already have that fits the way you'd like it to onto the bottom of your sweatshirt. Fold your sleeves in up to the collar. Trace around.

  2. Small 105612 2f2014 11 15 200229 sweatshirt%2b011

    Cut out your shirt.

  3. Small 105612 2f2014 11 15 200252 sweatshirt%2b012

Use your new shirt pattern to cut out sleeves. I used the bottom of the original sleeves to make the new ones.

  4. Small 105612 2f2014 11 15 200934 sweatshirt%2b013

Use the top of your shirt to draw out your peter pan collar. Mark the center front to make it easier.

  5. Small 105612 2f2014 11 15 201012 sweatshirt%2b014

    Center front.

  6. Small 105612 2f2014 11 15 201026 sweatshirt%2b015

    Cut out twice.

  7. Small 105612 2f2014 11 15 201050 sweatshirt%2b016

Cut the back of your collar using the same method.

  8. Small 105612 2f2014 11 15 201109 sweatshirt%2b018

Pin the front and back together on both pieces (don't pin as in this picture, you'll want your collars to be mirror images of each other).

  9. Small 105612 2f2014 11 15 201338 sweatshirt%2b019

Sew the side seams of your collar together. Flatten your seam and sew down the center using a zig-zag stitch. Repeat for the other side of your collar.

  10. Small 105612 2f2014 11 15 201429 sweatshirt%2b021

Pin the front and back of your collar together, right sides facing together. Sew.

  11. Small 105612 2f2014 11 15 201503 sweatshirt%2b022

Understitch the seams of our collar down to the back side.

  12. Small 105612 2f2014 11 15 201529 sweatshirt%2b023

It should look like this when finished.

  13. Small 105612 2f2014 11 15 201550 sweatshirt%2b024

Pin your side seams together and sew down using a straight stitch. Again flatten out your seam and sew flat with a zig-zag stitch.

  14. Small 105612 2f2014 11 15 201815 sweatshirt%2b025

Incert your sleeves right sides together, pin and sew.

  15. Small 105612 2f2014 11 15 201847 sweatshirt%2b026

For a flat, finished looking seam, understitch your sleeves and cut away the excess.

  16. Small 105612 2f2014 11 15 201946 sweatshirt%2b027

Open up your collar, pin and sew the two open ends together. Flatten seam and sew using a zig-zag stitch and cut away excess.

  17. Small 105612 2f2014 11 15 202040 sweatshirt%2b029

Your collar should look like this.

  18. Small 105612 2f2014 11 15 202118 sweatshirt%2b030

Pin and sew your collar to the inside of your sweatshirt and sew.

  19. Small 105612 2f2014 11 15 202142 sweatshirt%2b031

Top stitch your collar. You can add lace, buttons, ribbons or anything else you want to embelish your new shirt.
