Turn an outdated thrift store coffee table into a modern upholstered ottoman!
We had been wanting a square storage ottoman for our living room for ages, but we weren't willing to shell out $300+ bucks. As soon as I saw this big square coffee table, I knew it had potential. The random drawer sent me over the edge and I convinced Reid to go back to the store with me and we bought it! It was $39 which is more than I would normally spend for a thrift store purchase, but the size was right, the drawer was a rare find and it is really solid wood in perfect condition. With some clearance upholstery fabric and a little elbow grease, we were able to transform it into the ottoman of our dreams!

    Step 1

First, we had to take the whole thing apart. The top was a heavy piece of solid wood.

The next step was drilling holes for the covered buttons.

Next, I used spray adhesive and glued 2 inch foam around the entire thing.

After the foam, we added a layer of batting. We stapled this on using a staple gun.

After carefully stretching and stapling the fabric on, it was time to add the covered buttons. We were able to easily guide a long needle through the holes that we had drilled earlier.

We made sure to staple the thread from the buttons on the back so that everything was really secure.

And it was complete! It has held up great and we love that it provides extra storage for games.
