Tassels are great. I wanted to make some that didn't require a stud tool. Rolling the leather and using large cord ends gives a nice finish.

Tassels are great. I wanted to make some that didn't require a stud tool. Rolling the leather and using large cord ends gives a nice finish.

Instructions

  1. Small 1

Start by making 2 tassels. Cut a rectangle shape of leather 6cm by 12cm.

  2. Small 2

On the back measure 3cm from each end. Join the 2 points with a diagonal line.

  3. Small 3

Turn the pieces of leather so the short end is at the top.

  4. Small 4

Using a pair of sharp scissors cut slits into the leather starting from the diagonal edge. Do not cut all the way through. Leave about 5mm uncut at the top.

  5. Small 5

You then have two piece of leather that look like this.

  6. Small 6

Add some strong glue into the large cord end caps.

  7. Small 7

Tightly roll the uncut edge of the leather starting from the long side of the fringe.

  8. Small 8

Push this end into the cord end. Hold for a few minutes to make sure it is held and leave to dry.

  9. Small 9

Take your two tassels, a handbag charm, jump rings and a short piece of chain.

  10. Small 10

Use 2 pairs to open the jump rings. To open and close jump rings hold either side of the opening in the ring with a pair of pliers. Move the ends in a forward and backwards motion. Never pull the jump ring apart sideways, this deforms the shape of the ring.

  11. Small 11

Using the jump rings attach one end of the chain to the handbag charm and the other end to one of the tassels

  12. Small 12

Use the last jump ring to attach the other tassel directly to the handbag charm.
