Instructions

  1. Small knitneedle1 1264700024

Here's how to knit your knitting needle. With 4mm (US6) needles and double knitting yarn, cast on 3 sts. Row 1: K. Row 2: P. Row 3: incr in each st - 6 sts Row 4 and all even rows - P Row 5: k1, incr in next st, rpt to end (9 sts) Row 7: k2, incr in next st, rpt to end (12 sts) Row 9, k3, incr in next st, rpt to end (15 sts) Row 11: k4, incr in next st, rpt to end (18 sts) Row 13: k5, incr in next st, rpt to end (21 sts)

Now knit straight in stocking stitch until needle is about 20 cm long or so - up to you! Shape the head: Row 1: k1, incr in next st, rpt to end Row 2: P Row 3: k1, incr in next st, rpt to end Row 4: P. Work 6-8 rows stocking stitch. Now decrease: Row 1: K1, k2tog, rpt to end Row 2: P Row 3: K2tog all way across Row 4: P Row 5: K2tog all way across. Cut off long end, thread through the remaining stitches and pull tight. Use the end to sew up the side of the needle, leaving small gap for stuffing.

On the largest needles you've got, cast on and work a few rows in either fabric strips (I used cut-up t-shirt) or very thick yarn. On the last row, wrap wool 3 times round the needle as you make the stitch. This leaves you with a nice big loop when you slip the knitting off the real needles and onto your knitted ones.

Transfer the giant knitting across and spread across the two needles. And there we are - ready to adorn a wall or a tree or to play with. A word to the wise - don't knit these giant needles in a skin tone! They might be misconstrued!!
