I took a cardboard box and some old dance (workout) pants that were stretchy enough to handle earrings, and stretched the material over the box, with box and sideless area facing me. Then I stapled the fabric to the back and folded over the sides like you would when wrapping a present. As the back looked a little sparse afterwards, I stapled and glued a picture from an old calendar on it. The result was a free, sturdy and pretty snazzy earring holder.
