i came up with the idea to make a recycled shopping bag when i was given a magazine bag from a cute shop in my local market. it was lovely, and it inspired to make use of my old Lush Times and turn it into a shopping bag, which i will now use whenever i go on my many shopping trips!

Instructions

  1. Small 16633

For this project, i decided to use a Lush Times, as they are very newspaprish and they have some lovely pictures to use as well. If you agree with me and wish to create a Lush Times bag as well, please do not hesitate to go into Lush and pick up one of these. If not, (why?) then just use a newspaper that you have lying around. make sure everyones finished with it though, before they pick it up to find the article they want to read has been cut out.

  2. Small 16634

Now you are ready to start. Cut out different sized squares from the newspaper (i chose to use pictures of my favourite Lush products). It would also be quite clever if you cut out the title to put on your bag. That is what i did. You could also cut out random words that look cool.

  3. Small 16635

Glue the squares onto the bag with PVA glue. Arrange them first, before you stick them down, because then you have an inkling of what your bag will look like. You may need to cut out some more for the back, or if you want a fat bag, add another layer.

  4. Small 16636

Cover the whole bag with strips of your newspaper until you are happy with it. I covered the inside as well, which is good because then it looks like you made the bag from scratch. You can leave it as it is, but if you want cover the whole bag with PVA glue so that it looks shiny. I didn't do this, but i think that the PVA glue is a good effect and finishing touch.

Now all you need to do is cut i rectangle out of card that is SMALLER than the bottom of the bag. Then cover this rectangle in newspaper and stick it to the bottom of the inside of your bag. This will make the bag sturdy and will allow it to stand up quite easily. Voila! Your bag is done and you can now take it shopping with you. i'm sure it'll make all your friends jealous! Recycling = FUN!
