Description

This is a wonderful craft that is ideal as an ornament or a gift for someone you love. I used a charm that had a word of encouragement, but you don't have to do so.

Instructions

  1. Download the pattern and print it out on thick paper such as cardstock. Cut it out. Using stiff felt, trace the outline of the bird and wings (you will need two of everything).

  2. Doing one side at a time (making sire to double check that you are doing the correct sides and not the ones that will be glued together), decide wing placement and sew on the wing with your needle and thread. Do the same for the eyes, placing them in roughly the same spot on each side. I used a round glass, seed bead for the eyes in a color that contrasted nicely against the black so it could be easily seen.

  3. Create a pattern for the beads, flowers and buttons that is visually pleasing to you. Sew on the beads using small stitches. When attaching the flowers, use small button stitches in the center of the flowers and cover these with a larger decorative bead. You can also attach your charm at this time as well. Cut your ribbon and secure it with a few stitches to the inside of where the wings will meet. This will hide the stitches if the thread is not an exact match to the felt.

  4. Lay one side of the bird beaded side down and cover with hot glue. Match up the opposite side and press together, making sure not too squeeze too tightly and cause glue to come out of the sides. Trim any obvious discrepancies unless doing so interferes with your bead work or other embellishments. You are now ready to hang your bird or wrap it to give as a gift! Enjoy :)
