Description

I love cables, so it's no surprise that I designed a hat with cables. This one was for one of my brothers who live in Minnesota.

Instructions

  1. Pattern Instructions: Special Stitches: 6-st LC= Slip 3 stitches to cable needle and hold to front, K3, K3 from cable needle. Cast on 100 stitches. Place marker to mark the beginning of the round and join by knitting the first stitch. Work in K1, P1 ribbing to the end of round. Continue working in K1, P1 ribbing until hat measures 1.5" from cast on row. Cable Section: Round 1: *P2, K6, P2 (K1, P5, K1) P2, K6; repeat from * to end of round. Round 2: Repeat previous round. Round 3: P2, 6-st LC, P2 (K1, K5, K1) P2, 6-st LC. Round 4: P2, K6, P2 (K1, K5, K1) P2, K6. Round 5: P2, K6, P2 (K1, P5, K1) P2, K6. Round 6: P2, K6, P2 (K1, P5, K1) P2, K6. Round 7: P2, K6, P2 (K1, K5, K1) P2, K6. Round 8: P2, K6, P2 (K1, K5, K1) P2, K6. Repeat Rounds 1-8 four times more.

  2. Crown: Note: From this point on, you will be knitting each stitch. Next Round: Knit each stitch to the end of the round, decreasing 4 sts evenly. (96 stitches remaining.) Divide the stitches into 8 sections of 12 stitches with stitch markers. Crown Decreases: (K10, K2TOG) to end of round. (88 stitches remaining.) (K9, K2TOG) to end of round. (80 stitches remaining.) (K8, K2TOG) to end of round. (72 stitches remaining.) (K7, K2TOG) to end of round. (64 stitches remaining.) (K6, K2TOG) to end of round. (56 stitches remaining.) (K5, K2TOG) to end of round. (48 stitches remaining.) (K4, K2TOG) to end of round. (40 stitches remaining.) (K3, K2TOG) to end of round. (32 stitches remaining.) (K2, K2TOG) to end of round. (24 stitches remaining.) (K1, K2TOG) to end of round. (16 stitches remaining.) K2TOG to end of round. (8 stitches remaining.) Cut yarn. Weave yarn end through the remaining 8 stitches and pull to close the crown of the hat. Weave in any ends.
