Description

Here's how to create your own rustic lovebird-themed cake topper.

Instructions

  1. Small 111374 2f2015 10 06 191124 dsc 1770

Cut out the base of your cake topper. Sand the rough edges

  2. Small 111374 2f2015 10 06 191313 dsc 2067

Sculpt a small round ball out of clay. Pinch one end into a point (the tail of the bird) and elongate the other end. Pinch the very tip of the elongated end into a beak.

  3. Small 111374 2f2015 10 06 191322 dsc 2074

Make two birds out of clay and allow them to fully dry.

  4. Small 111374 2f2015 10 06 191549 topper7

Paint the birds with acrylic paint. I gave them two coats, plus a coat of sparkly sealant.

  5. Small 111374 2f2015 10 06 191426 dsc 2064

Create the outline of your cage using the wire. Add on curved lengths of wire to create the full cage.

  6. Small 111374 2f2015 10 06 191628 dsc 1766

To make the perch, wind the wire around the dowel or pencil and gently slide off. Attach the perch to the top of the cage. For the full tutorial, please check out Flourish & Knot!
