I'm old, like 40-something, but I think this is a crazy-cool idea!! I mean, a gummy bear bracelet! All those bright colors! And you went about it the right way, you preserved them with varnish. I think you did a great job. Very unique, and new to me!

Too bad they don't make blue or purple gummy bears. Happy Then you could have had a rainbow colored gummy bear bracelet!Happy

Can we use nail polish instead? Will it work? My first attempt tummies were not coated enough and the next day there were ants crawling all about it! It's so disgusting.

I tried mine with clear nail varnish, and that works equally well too. For a pretty twist, try using clear nail varnish with glitter in! Pretty sparkly gummy bears!!

A note on resin:
I particularly like the Envirotex Lite resin, which can be found at a lot of craft stores. Here is their website, which contains a lot of different products for different applications:
http://www.eti-usa.com/index.html
See the section "polymer coatings."
They also have a "where to buy" section.

Adorable! I'm definitely going to make one. Gives me so many ideas for other types of candy jewelry. Too much fun!

Shivi - Resin is an epoxy (plastic) liquid that when mixed with a hardener turns into a clear (unless dye is added) plastic coating.

You can buy resin at most craft stores. Just read on the label to see if it's good for such craft projects, though most should work fine for this application.

Note: Be sure to read resin instructions carefully! Resin doesn't set up unless you measure and mix correctly. A cool tip to get bubbles out of resin: breathe on it. (Don't blow, just breathe). The carbon dioxide released when breathing causes the air bubbles to rise to the surface of the resin and disappear. But be careful! Resin is highly caustic, so when breathing out onto the resin, don't breathe back in without turning away first! Also be sure to use in a well ventilated area, and if you use it a lot you need to get a respirator and take other safety precautions.

Enjoy!

They weren't sugar coated, they just looked like that coz all the varnish was peeling off. We used a craft varnish called gloss varnish, should we try a hardware store type?

Shiv and me tried this but with some jelly fruits, we used vanish but after the first coat of vanish they were still very soft so we used another coat and they looked like they had been dipped in sugar, what happened?

They shouldn't be sticky if you coat them in enough resin.

I can't say if the glaze would work, best bet is to try it out - you're hardly taking a risk at wasting one gummy bear.

I'm not sure if PVA would work, it's probably quite weak compared to varnish as it's mostly made from water. Give it a shot though and let me know how it turns out.
